This mobile web thing is getting serious The Yankee Group regularly reviews mobile websites and hands out awards for best user experience. Google tops the rankings and the competition is stiff all across the board which will only get more intense, particularly in the e-commerce sector.

1-800-Flowers.com tops $1 million in quarterly m-commerce sales The online retailer giant’s mobile sales went from $10,000 in Summer of 2009 to $1 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2011. These numbers appear staggering until the rising adopting rate of smartphones is taken into account.

How mobile websites, Web apps, and HTML5 are good for everyone In just two short years the number of mobile sites rose from 150,000 to a staggering 3.01 million. With widespread adoption, all the buzz around HTML 5, and traffic growth charts that show no signs of decline we’re confident that the next set of metrics will make these last two years seem minuscule in comparison.

Changing face of mobility = trillion dollar business by 2014 For long now there have been predictions of exploding mobile industry growth rates in the near future. With present day metrics in hand we can finally say that the time of mobile web has come.

With such incredibly positive Q4 predictions, we’re pondering what 2011 might have in store for the industry.

Half of Web-enabled phone owners have shopped from their handset: study Consumers are getting much more friendly with shopping on their mobile devices. Are e-Commerce sites prepared for what the upcoming Holiday Season has in store?

A look at Blackberry’s numbers (apps, devices, Web usage, etc.) With the new BlackBerry devices around the corner it’s interesting to see some stats on how the previous line up has performed. Fun metrics like “29% of BlackBerry users are considering switching to Apple smartphones” inside!

Mozilla Proposes Open Web App System Mozilla is considering rolling out its own answer to Google’s Chrome Web Store. This news, coupled with its last week’s announcement, is making us wonder what they are up to.

What jQuery Mobile Means for Developers We are super excited about this announcement and are happy to welcome jQuery to the mobile space. While still very early stage, jQuery Mobile has a tremendous amount of potential.

Opera CEO Lars Boilesen predicts the future of the web A couple of optimistic points about the future of mobile all pointing to the idea that the move to the mobile web will make other factors such as OS or proprietary technologies irrelevant in the near future.

Mobile Web browsing to outstrip desktop A good overview of the current state of mobile web, including comments from Windows Phone team. “Over e-mail, Wong explained that the WP7 Web browser is designed so that it can be independently upgraded from the rest of the Windows Phone 7 firmware. He added that this “opens up the possibility of rapid frequent updates of the Web browser in Windows Phone 7″.

Mobile Web Performance Matters More Than Ever, According to New Research at 4G World 2010 Recently announced report ranks the top 48 mobile websites and gives an in-depth analysis of each. The results of the “Best of the Anywhere Web 2010″ study will be unveiled at a live conference this week.

This news is interesting considering that Mozilla has just signed with Microsoft to include Bing in their search box. Only time will tell how this will develop.

QuickBooks 2011 gets mobile, Web access New QuickBooks offers mobile web experience to its customers specifically tailored to the iPhone and Blackberry. We applaud the move.

Android to Add Next 500M Mobile Web Users in India? We’ve previously covered how Nokia is set to capture a large market share in the East and now there’s someone new on the block going after the same target with attractively priced phones.

Windows Phone 7 Gets Nov. 8 Release The new Microsoft phone is poised to bring a couple of innovations to the already saturated market, one of which is the “social approach” to organizing your information. Will this be enough to set it apart from the rest of the pack?

Smartphones Dominate! New Gartner report shows that smartphones are dominating their counterparts in terms of web and app usage. We’re excited because it means more support for cutting edge mobile web technologies.

Google CEO: Smartphones Will Outsell PCs by 2012 This is bold statement, but if anyone has got access to metrics that would back this up it’s Google.

Mobile Web, Stop Being Average! The path to mobile web enlightenment lies through navigating past many preconceptions. Mobile: small screens – big picture and those who don’t want to get left in the dust need to get it.

Vodafone’s Web Services Chief Quits A couple of years ago Vodafone hired Microsoft’s Chief of Mobile to run its Internet Services devision. One of the projects, the Vodafone 360, hasn’t performed nearly as well as was hoped. This may be the reason for Web Services Chief’s leaving of the company.

New BlackBerry “PlayBook” Tablet Announced We believe in RIM, we really do, but right now, all we have to go on is what they’ve released to the press and, admittedly, emotions are mixed. We wish them best of luck!

The New BlackBerry Ad Network Service The entry into the mobile ad serving game will be made smoother by RIM’s eager developer base. Only time will tell how the new service stacks up against Apple’s iAds and Google’s AdMob.
